I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I believe in helping people, the lost and hurting. But so many out there that are looking at getting involved in "social justice" ministries also seem to downplay the Gospel of Jesus at its most basic level. The Gospel is about redemption, but you can't have redemption in the Earth until you begin to have redemption in the hearts of men.

We can try to get all Christians involved in giving more, but it has to be more than that. Jesus has to be made known. The root of poverty is going to be "sin." It's both system wide, economic, political, etc. It's sin against the poor.

But we can't forget it is also the sin of the poor and frankly everyone else that lives on this planet as well.

You can't experience the fullness of redemption without experiencing the Lordship of Christ. Everything else will just be a bandaid. Bandaids are good, they can help, but they are rarely solutions or cures.

I don't know if this makes any sense. The religious right forgot about this as they have tackled issues like abortion. You can change the law, but if you don't change hearts it's not going to stop. Only Jesus can change hearts.

I don't want people to stop doing good things, but scripture asks the question, what good does it do a man to gain the whole world but lose his soul.

We have to attack poverty, AIDS, and all of these other issues on multiple levels. I am convinced that if we do with the spiritual side, then as people make Jesus the Lord of their lives, he will begin to bless the resources we can put into helping and mulitply them and their impact.
