I ran across this post today:
So my question is:
Can Blessing pets be Missional?
My thought is no, this is the epitome of attractional ministry.

I guess one could make an argument that pet ownership is a part of the culture we live in and therefore “blessing pets” connects use with that cultural aspect – but I wouldn’t make that case.
If this body has tied the “blessing” with going to their specific building or meeting location, then it certainly is attractional in nature.
as a missional christian pet owner, i would say that its possible.
yes, it could be used as attractional in inviting people to buildings and such, but it could also be used in many ways.
what if churches went out to the community for pet training, pet grief (which is a real need, ask anyone whose lost a dear pet), and such.
I live in an apartment complex, and owning a dog as allowed for many conversation and relationships to develop that would not have otherwise.
I think owning an animal can be made into a spiritual exercise, and is an easy way to invite people to realize the kingdom around them.
i guess the difference would be between a gimmick to get people into church and actual pet owners caring for other pet owners and their pets.
You know - I appreciate getting a perspective change.
Thanks for helping me see once again that anything we can do is missional.
Joe this statement - "i guess the difference would be between a gimmick to get people into church and actual pet owners caring for other pet owners and their pets."
is the difference maker!
Thanks
